Village Ludwinow

Ludwinowo is the oldest property of one of the lines of the Orzeszko family, belonging to the Korab family since the 17th century. Administratively Ludwinow belonged to the Brest Voivodeship of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania.

From 1795 in the Russian Empire, from 1801 in Grodno province. In 1845 the estate was owned by Feliks Orzeszko, then the estate was owned by his son Piotr. The village is on Schubert’s map for 1826-1840:

In 1858, the Ludwinow estate in Osowiec parish, Kobryn district, Grodno province, belonged to Piotr Orzeszko. The Polish writer Eliza Orzeszko (Pawlowska), wife of Piotr Orzeszko, lived and worked in Ludwinow from 1858 to 1864. In RGIA, F. 384 Op. 13 Д. 281, extreme dates: August 1, 1850. - March 1, 1851, our village is mentioned.

In 1862 she organized a local elementary school, where 20 young men studied.Under her influence the Ludwinow estate became one of the centers of the uprising of 1863-1864. It was a stronghold for the rebels of Romuald Traugutt. It is worth mentioning that in the archive RGIA, F. 577 Op. 10 Д. 921, the extreme dates: March 31, 1864 - September 21, 1866, there is a mention of the village of Ludwinow.

In 1864 the estate was confiscated to the treasury, the writer went to the estate of her parents near Grodno. After the defeat of the rebels Eliza Orzeszko saved the life of the wounded Traugutt, taking him in her carriage to Brest and then to Warsaw. Piotr Orzeszko was imprisoned in Kobryn prison during the Tsar’s investigation, and in 1865 Orzeszko was exiled to the Perm gubernia. Later the estate, which had 1218 dessiatinas of land was sold to Pawel Kontorow, who built a distillery for 15 thousand liters of annual production, Pawel son Nikolaj took over the estate. Nikolaj was killed in Rogaczew (near Gomel) at the hands of bandits when he was fleeing from the Germans in World War I. Nikolai heirs sold the estate to Piotr heirs. Piotrs heirs sold the estate to the Rozwadowski brothers, who divided the estate after the First World War. The manor was bought by Wener, who later dismantled most of the manor. From 1921 to 1939 it was part of Poland, in Osowiec commune, Drohiczyn district, Poleskie voivodeship. In 1921 the folwark had 7 yards and 68 inhabitants. In 1936 in Ludwinow was found a hoard of XI century coins, most of the 651 coins were of German origin, there were also Danish coins, English, Hungarian, Italian, one Irish Kufic and one Czech coin. In the Great Patriotic War 7 inhabitants of the village died at the front. In 1949 the collective farm named after “September 17” was founded, chairman A. Fiedukowicz. Since 1954 it was a part of Brest region. In 1959 the farmstead in Popina village council, 268 inhabitants. In 1970 the village - 279 inhabitants, in 1995 - 67 yards and 151 inhabitants.
