Village Suboty

The village has been known from written sources since the 16th century under two names: 2nd Torokany, Mala Torokan, Czykin in the Troki Voivodeship, Grand Duchy of Lithuania. It has been known under the name Suboty since the last quarter of the 18th century. Since 1795, it has been part of the Russian Empire, in the Kobryn district of the Slonim province, since 1797 in the Lithuanian province, and since 1801 in the Grodno province.

Church in Suboty

The church in Subboty (formerly called Malaya Torokan) was built in 1797 by Basilian monks from the Tarakan monastery (now v. Imienin). The description of the date of construction is available in “Descriptions of churches and parishes. Grodno Orthodox Church Calendar. Volume 1.” It is worth noting that in 1899 there were already 2 churches attached to this church from Imienin and Losinets. The first one was probably assigned because of the decline of the Basilian monastery after the Polotsk cathedral.
